Do you prefer ten dollars or ten million? It seems to be a stupid question. I think almost everyone would choose ten million without hesitation, provided that no strings are attached.

 

This is actually a question from a TV drama decades ago. A lady is being courted by two men, but she doesn't know who to choose. Then her mother says, if a man has ten dollars and gives you nine, it's better than if he has ten million and only gives you one hundred thousand.

 

Well, first of all, it's a TV drama decades ago. So let's not judge the mother's words with today's idea of gender equality.

 

Secondly, you may argue, 'Why can't I choose a man who has ten million and gives me nine hundred thousand?' Of course you can, provided that there is such a man falling for you.

 

Then you may also argue, 'One hundred thousand is still a lot more than nine dollars, right?' That's correct. But I don't think the mother is really talking about money; she's talking about how much a man is willing to devote his love to her daughter. But then we are back to the 'love or bread' question. 

 

I've recently watched a moving video online. 

 

A man came to Thailand to visit a drag queen, because his wife had been a fan for the performer. The couple had intended to travel to Thailand for the drag queen show in December 2024, but then the wife had passed away before they could ever make it. , not alone, but with a portrait of his deceased wife.

 

After hearing the story, the drag queen was so moved that he received the husband and took a picture with the husband and the wife's portrait. 'She's lucky to have someone who loves her like that,' says the drag queen referring to the wife.
